The Universe Has a Sense of Humor!

Thursday the hubby and I left for NY to visit my family. We didn’t make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. We exchanged cards and some chocolates. Just getting away for the weekend was enough for me.
On Friday we met friends for dinner. As we were sitting there my middle daughter walks up to the table to say hello. She was at the restaurant with her father…my ex-husband. Now mind you I don’t like my ex in any way, shape, or form. L walks away and my friends think she’s my oldest. When we tell them it’s L they’re floored. They can’t believe how much she’s grown in four years since they were last out in RI to visit. L is taller than my friends. LOL
Anyway, about ten minutes later who gets seated next to us? Yup my ex, our daughter and his other daughter. After a few minutes I forgot he was there and enjoyed our friends. We laughed until my stomach hurt that night. Overall, it was awesome.
I didn’t let my ex ruin my night.
We came home Saturday night. My oldest daughter called to tell me her boyfriend had just proposed. She texted me a pic of the ring. Gorgeous! I’m so happy for them. Now I have to bust my ass to sell books so I can pay for this wedding.
Oh and I subbed my themed book to my LI editor on deadline.
A great weekend…and I’m off today!
Happy Monday.

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday

My mother jumped on the "Fifty Shades" Band wagon. We had a conversation about how I've been writing this stuff for many years before Fifty became a household name. I gave my mom a few of my friends books for Christmas to show her, there are better books out there.
To my surprise she informed me that she read Submit With Me over the holiday's and she enjoyed it. Thanks Mom! :o) Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know, Mom is bias.

It just so happens it's my Whet Your Appetite this week. Here's a taste.

Blurb:

Rena is on a quest to get laid and she’s willing to go to any length to fulfill her need.
Marc has a thirst for a submissive. He longs to find someone he can bring to the edge of ecstasy and rein back in before an orgasm. He wants to tie, tease and torture his submissive, pushing the limits of sexual awareness.
When he offers Rena five hundred dollars to be his sub for the night, he gets more than he bargained for. This spitfire is about to show him a thing or two about submitting.

Excerpt:

Rena had one goal in mind—to get laid. Taking a long drag off the straw nestled in her fruity drink, she scanned the smoke-filled bar for a potential mark. Tonight she didn’t care about getting to know someone. No, tonight she only cared about filling the void in her aching pussy.
“Damn,” she cursed under her breath. Tables were full with happy couples, either enjoying drinks or dinner. Soft jazz played in the background. Normally Rena enjoyed the lazy tempo, but not tonight. She was too busy looking for someone to fill her need. Her desire. Rena’s pussy ached to be fucked. Glancing around the haze, she shook her head. Not one guy in the place looked eligible. She considered going to another bar but decided against it. Not many bars offered rooms above them for the clients to rent by the hour. No, this was the place where she intended to find the man to make her pussy sing. Besides, the patrons were upper-class and the bar had a reputation for only allowing in respectable people. Safe. That was the reason she was here and wouldn’t go anyplace else.
Staring into the mirror behind the bar, she gave the room another scan. Still nothing. She couldn’t believe there wasn’t one man desirable enough to give her the relief she craved.

She emptied her drink. Maybe it was best if she called it a night. Obviously she wasn’t getting laid tonight.
As Rena stepped off the barstool, her face came into contact with one broad chest. She glanced up to stare into the most exquisite blue eyes she’d ever seen.
“Leaving so soon?” he asked in a husky voice.
“Just going to powder my nose,” she lied.
“I didn’t think women did that any longer.”
“I’m not just any woman.” Rena winked. “I’m every man’s wish come true.” Leaving him standing there, mouth agape, she headed toward the bathroom.
He ordered her a new drink when she shimmied onto the stool.
“Thanks for the drink.” She didn’t bother to look at him, but she caught him watching her in the mirror.
“My pleasure.”

Rena couldn’t help herself, she smiled.
He was gorgeous, dressed in tight-fitting denims and a painted-on black tee , muscles bulging from under the short sleeves.
“Come here often?” Lame. She hated pickup lines, so why was she using one on him?
He laughed a hearty laugh.
“Actually the first time.”
Hmm. A first timer.
“So what brings you here tonight?”
“I’m looking for a little action.”

“What kind of action?” Maybe the same kind she was looking for? A “wham bam thank you ma’am” kinda night?
“Nothing you’d be interested in, I’m sure.”
“And what makes you so sure I’m not interested in your kind of action?” Insult dripped from her voice.
“Just a gut feeling.”
“Are you saying I’m too prim and proper for you?”
He shrugged indifferently.
“Try me, I’ll bet I surprise you.”
He shook his head no.
Are you fucking serious? He was turning her down? No fucking way. This was not the way she had planned this night. She was determined to get laid and Mister Muscles fit the bill.

“Let me guess, you’re looking to get laid—no strings attached?”
He didn’t flinch when she blurted out the statement.
Instead he stood, reached deep into his pocket and pulled out a wad of cash.
“You think you can handle my action?”
He slapped a hundred-dollar bill on the bar.
“I’m offering you one hundred dollars to be my slut for the night.”
She almost choked on her drink.
“See, I knew you wouldn’t be able to handle it.” He sat back down.
She laughed.

“What’s so funny?”
“That you think one hundred dollars is enough. Make it five and I’ll be Mary Fucking Poppins if you want.”

Kiki Howell and Naughty Nights Press are pleased to announce the At War In The Willows book tour, celebrating the release of At War In The Willows in paperback format.
Please visit the participating blogs and read guest posts and interviews with Kiki. Be in the running for a tour long giveaway of a one of a kind Vampire Scarf, hand crafted by none other than the Queen of Paranormal Erotica, Kiki Howell herself.
Some blogs will also be hosting a mini giveaway where one person who leaves a comment will win either a Vampire Book Thong or a Witch Book Thong (great to use when reading At War In The Willows so you don't lose your spot).

The queen of paranormal erotica, Kiki Howell has captured our hearts with her trilogy, At War In The Willows. The first book, The Vampire’s Witch was quickly followed by The Vampire’s Wolf and ended with The Vampire’s Human.
Synopsis:
The Willows is a resort town run by vampires, werewolves and witches. Here, their true identities are kept secret from humans, and intimate relations between the individual clans are strictly forbidden.
When it becomes known that the vampire Amberlyn has fallen in love with the werewolf Kane, the tedious line of their co-existence has been crossed. Caught in the crossfire of this revelation, Drake, the vampire clan leader and Amberlyn’s maker, is killed along with an innocent witch. These deaths spark a series of horrific events leading to an all out War In The Willows.
Unexpected close encounters, bodies ripe with need, and situations beyond their control lead to forbidden relationships. Now three vampires, a witch, a werewolf and a human must ride along the edges of the rules. They will attempt once unthinkable romantic entanglements despite all those who oppose their relationships, while fighting for their lives as well.
With the Willows full of violence and bloodshed, meetings and magic amiss, will the clans ever be able to find peace among them again? Or, will this war destroy the Willows?

Good plot, great characters and sexy enough to raise the temperature in my house about 20 degrees. A real page turner! ~4/5 Stars by Angela Holtz:
Reviews for Book I, The Vampire's Witch
“This is the first adult book I've read by Kiki Howell. And it was delicious! Good plot, great characters and sexy enough to raise the temperature in my house about 20 degrees... It's a very fast read, only about 50 pages. But it's a real page turner!” ~4/5 Stars by Lilac Wolf
“Ms Howell weaves a spell binding web that ensnares the mind and lets the reader drift away in to another world. I highly look forward to the next two books in this series!” ~4/5 Stars by Phoenix Johnson
“This is a sexy but short vampire and witch story which takes place in the middle of an upcoming war between three species. I can't wait for the next book in the series.” ~ 4 Stars from Linda Tonis, Member of the Paranormal Romance Review Team
Reviews for Book II, The Vampire's Wolf
“This is the second book in the series and picks up exactly where the first when left off… This is a short story with explicit sex. I can't wait for the next book to find out what Devin's story is and to continue learning about Isaac and Amberlyn.”~ 4 Stars from Linda Tonis, Member of the Paranormal Romance Review Team

Meet Kiki Howell

Ever since she was young, Kiki Howell has loved to listen to a well-woven tale with real characters, inspired plots, and delightful resolutions. Kiki could spend hours lost in a book, and soon she knew that creating lives, loves, and losses with just words had to be the greatest thing that she could do. To that end, she pursued her study of literature and writing, earning a bachelor’s degree in English. She then followed in a Master’s program in Creative Writing.

“After a long break having my boys, I finally just had to write again. And, as soon as I gave the stories the space, they entered it. It’s both awesome and humbling to find the words in my mind become characters on a page and create their lives.”
She has now had over thirty stories published between eleven different publishers. Kiki could not be more thrilled or grateful to see her creations polished and out in the real world. Please look around. Although a bit of caution, most of her stories tend to hang out on the graphically sexy side of town.

In May, 2011, Kiki was chosen as an Ohioana Book Festival author for her novel, Torn Asunder.
And, in March 2012, Kiki was awarded Bestselling Author for Naughty Nights Press, also earning two Silver Stars from All Romance Ebooks for her NNP novellas: Love, Creativity and Magick; The Vampire's Witch; and most recently Mystical Mayhem. Kiki's At War in the Willows Series has also been nominated for Best Series of 2012 by Sizzling PR
Kiki resides in the Midwest with her incredibly handsome and talented, singer/songwriter husband Stephen Howell and two children. When she is not writing, she is spending time with her family, reading, baking or knitting.
Her biggest dream is to have a novel she writes be made into a movie that her husband creates the soundtrack for, and then cruise to Alaska with her family on the money they make.

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday

I'm going to share Whet Your Appetite with you, but first I wanted to share this article I found very interesting about reviewers. Because I've been scratching my head lately with a few reviews this pretty much sums it up for me.

Now on to Splashing Good Time

This book is one of my favorites still...and only .99 at Ellora's Cave

Blurb:
Reece Collins is growing tired of her Wednesday ritual of masturbating to the sight of the so-called “pool boy” and her battery-operated friend is leaving her unsatisfied. She craves a no-strings-attached torrid sexual encounter. Problem? The only one offering is ten years her junior.

Nathan Donovan has lusted over his client forever. When he happens upon her in a very compromising position, his desires swell as he plunges headfirst into the deep end to save her. One brief encounter leaves him yearning for more, but when she splashes cold water on his plans, he has to choose between walking away or spanking some sense into her.

“You look hot!” she told her reflection. “Irresistibly hot?” Only time would tell. Strolling over to the window she dared a peak outside. He wasn’t here yet. Would he come? Certainly Steve sounded convincing enough. The fifty dollar bill she planted in his palm was enough encouragement to make an actor out of him. She stood by his side while he made the call. If she hadn’t known better, she would have believed him. She sent him on his way after the call. No need for him to stick around for the fireworks—hopefully of a sexual nature.
The undeniable sound of tires crunching on gravel, alerted her Nathan was here. And from the hurried sound of the truck coming to a stop, he wasn’t pleased. Silently she prayed her idea wouldn’t backfire. Hurrying from the room she descended the stairs, hoping to greet him at the pool.
“What the fuck!” she heard him scream.

Too late. She wasn’t quick enough. Nathan knew and he wasn’t happy. Reese slowly opened the door and walked casually over to the pool where Nathan stood looking at the water, obviously trying to figure out where the emergency was.
Whipping around he demanded. “What’s going on here?”
Lost for words Reese stood frozen in her spot. She hadn’t expected such anger. Yes, she tricked him into coming over. Maybe having Steve tell him the pool had turned an ugly color green that he couldn’t get rid of was a bad idea but she believed he’d be happy to see her. Boy was she mistaken.
“I-I-I put Steve up to it,” she confessed. “I didn’t think you would see me any other way.”
“Maybe if you picked up the phone you would have found out.” The disgust in his voice evident.
He was pissed at her. Her plan was slowly crumbling before her eyes. She couldn’t risk losing him a second time. He couldn’t walk away out of her life. She loved him. God help her she loved him more than any man she’d ever loved in her life.
“Would you have come if I had?” she challenged.

Looking away he shrugged.
“Then I was right to do what I did. I needed to see you, Nathan. You’ve been avoiding me. I’ve missed you.”
She watched him looking at the water. Was he searching for answers? Maybe there was hope for them after all.
Closing the gap between them, she touched his hand. “Please Nathan, look at me.”
He did as she asked and immediately her heart sank. Pain, deep pain, filled his eyes. Gone was the sparkle she loved so much, replaced with pain that cut to the core. Pain caused by her foolishness.
Touching his face she whispered. “I’m sorry.”
“What’s done is done.” He tried pulling free but she refused to let him walk away.
“I never meant to hurt you.”
“I’m fine.”

“I wasn’t trying to compare you to Vince. It may have sounded that way at the time and I’m sorry. I love you for who you are, not because you’ve proven him wrong. It doesn’t matter to me what Vince thinks, or anyone else for that matter. The only thing that matters is what’s in here,” she said pointing to her heart. “And here.” She placed her hand over his heart.
She felt his heart beating rapidly through his tight black t-shirt. He covered her hand with his.
“Do you honestly believe you’ll be okay with what others think about us? Because as you’ve pointed out before I’m much younger than you.”

When it Rains...

So I’m pretty much over the pneumonia. I’m feeling stronger. Early last week I woke in terrible pain in my left wrist. Now I’m not one to go to a doctor unless I can’t stand it any longer. My pain tolerance is pretty high, so when I rushed off to the walk in my hubby knew I was hurting.
Results – severe tendonitis in my left wrist. Last week I spent in a sling, icing the wrist and taking Tylenol…rinse and repeat. Against the doctor’s orders I continued to write. Only the book. The reason I continued is because of a deadline.
I skipped blogged and emailing because frankly I couldn’t handle the pain. The only thing that gave me some relief was Tylenol with codeine. Downside? It made me sleep too much. I started to feel better, but today it hurts again. I guess I did too much yesterday.
While I mend, my blogging might not be every day, but I’ll do it when I can.
The positive is I’m so close to the end on this wip…sometime this week. :o)
