Home Again, Home Again!

I’m home and full of ideas for a few new stories. The conference had some highs and lows, but overall an excellent conference!
What started off as a low at dinner on Friday night turned into an amazing high. The guest speaker stated he was a channeler. For me the speech was a tad sad and depressing. My friends love him, so I felt this is all personal taste. My parents always taught me to be respectful so I stayed and am I glad I did. After he was done my friends said let’s go up and talk to him. I didn’t have much I wanted to hear from him, but a dear friend of mine did. She wanted closer for a very difficult situation. As I stood in line I told her she may never get closer. I just felt it was best for her to be prepared that closure isn’t always available. Boy did Roland Comtois prove me wrong. He gave her so much closer he had me in tears. He also gave another friend some much needed information.
As for me he told me my dad needed me. I hadn’t spoken to him in over a month. I called and left him a vm and he called me back yesterday. Turns out my father had thrown his back out two weeks ago and was suffering. We spoke last night and I feel much better.
One of the highlights of my Friday night was meeting Julia Barrett in person. She is beautiful on the inside and out. She’s an amazing online friend so to see her, talk to her and give her a hug (or five) was incredible for me. Love ya J!
Another online friend I had the honor of finally meeting in person was Penny Watson. Folks she’s so funny and gorgeous in her tiara. I enjoyed her Promo workshop, her tiara and her ability to sell all her Christmas books at the book signing. (okay, so I was a bit jealous). ;)
That’s it for today. Tomorrow I’ll talk about Saturday and my agent appointment.
Happy Monday!

Gone for the Weekend

Heading out shortly for Salem MA and the annual NEC RWA conference. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Busy this week getting ready for the conference. Because I procrastinate I'm rushing like usual. Last minute details like getting the hair highlighted, need a new pair of dress pants. The ones I love magically disappeared. As my dear friend Katalina Leon said about my to-do list: #2 Don't go pant-less. LOL That would be a tad embarrassing. I've made plans with so many awesome friends and writers I can't wait to see them all. So if you're in Salem or around drop by for the book signing! Love to meet the readers.

Small World

Let me start off by saying I’m not happy with the new blogger. Maybe it will take some time to get used to or maybe I go back to Wordpress. We’ll see.
Now that I got that off my chest I’ve been thinking a lot about how it’s a small world. When I moved to RI some eight years ago I joined a writer’s group. After I went home I received an email from Blanche Marriott asking if I owned a magazine called Romancing the Skyze at one time. If fact I did. I was proud of my baby and enjoyed publishing works of authors such as Blanche and Cathy McDavid. Now Blanche is a wonderful friend.
http://www.amazon.com/Born-to-Bitch-ebook/dp/B006K7Y1H0/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334928507&sr=1-3

Illness forced me to fold shop, but I haven’t lost the desire to do something along the same lines. Maybe something bigger – like a publishing house some day? It’s not out of the question.
Staying with the small world theme I received a phone call from a good friend back in NY. She wanted to recommend a book to me. She’d met the author and thought I’d be interested. The book was a true account of paranormal. I believe in ghosts, having had many experiences in my life.
Anyway, she starts telling me about the book and how it took place in Watervliet. I grew up in the same city. So she’s giving me more details and says do you know where the Rite Aid is just over the 19th street Bridge? I say yup…she said well the book takes place right there. There used to be a bunch of houses before the tore them down and built the Rite Aid.
Of course I know this because I grew up right there. Literally. So I had to order the book called 207 and I got my mom a copy too. The woman who wrote it seems to believe a church down the road plays a part in the events that played out in her home. I must say I know the church and even though when we moved to our house back 26+ years ago, it was closed down at the time. It always gave me the creeps. Always.
Here’s the thing…our old house is haunted. My dad still lives there and his significant other has encounters all the time. Our ghost wasn’t harmful like the author of 207 experiences. Ours is more playful. It would turn on the water, open and close doors and hide things. Most of the time it was geared toward my mom. The ghost liked to wake me in the middle of the night.

I’m looking forward to finishing this book and then I’ll email the author because I just feel the need to knowing we lived a stone throw away. :o) so there you have it. My small world updates for today! LOL

Excerpt

Bryan finished swallowing and peered into Mara’s deep brown orbs. He sat his glass on the nightstand and took her hands into his own. “Mara, I want you to be a permanent part of my life with Damien. I want both of you. Is that something you’d be open to?”

Without hesitation she replied, “Yes. I told you it’s what I’ve thought about.”

He breathed a sigh of relief. “I’m glad you are, Mara. I know you mentioned it but I still worried…”

“Not sure why, babe. I want this.”

Bryan brought her into him and hugged her tightly. “I know he’ll like you, Mara. You’re exactly what I’ve been looking for and I’m sure he’ll feel the same.”

Mara returned the kiss. “I hope so. You really are unique.”

Bryan’s mouth felt like the Sahara. He couldn’t have been happier about her response. While he finished his water, “You really are somethin’, you know? I can’t believe how easy you are to talk to.”

Mara handed him the bottle. “Hon, I try not to worry about things. Life’s too short to do that. I’m just glad you’ve been honest with me.”

“I had to, babe. I really care for you, Mara. Even though we just met, I just feel like you’re the one I want to be with Damien and me. You’re everything I’ve hoped for.” Bryan put the wine down before holding up his glass to hers.

“You’re exactly what I’ve wished for too.”

Lust's First Kiss

The first kiss in a love affair is full of fireworks. I remember the first time I kissed each of my lovers. Each one was special and memorable in its own right. The first time Catherine kissed her lover Ryan is based on a similar first kiss I had with one of my own lovers when I was in college. That kiss in the rain is very romantic. Like Catherine, I also said “I love the feel of rain on my face...” Raindrops fell on my face as I stood with my eyes closed, not knowing he was approaching me to do much more than give me a peck on the cheek. My head swam when his lips crushed mine. It came totally without warning. I almost lost my balance as he held me in his arms. He took me completely by surprise since he'd been wrestling kissing me for several days at that point. That kiss was the symbol that we had crossed the line and there was no returning to mere friendship status. We were officially lovers at that point.

Each kiss struck me that way. It was a watershed moment. I can tell a lot about a man from his kiss. If he slobbers all over me and tries to eat me alive I'm completely turned off. If he pecks at me like a chicken I'm equally turned off. If a man wants to drive me mad, kiss my lips and work your way down my throat. I'll be putty in your arms in no time.

How about you? What memorable kisses have you experienced?

BLURB:

DON'T CALL ME BABY is a fast-paced, quick-witted, sexy, novel about a young woman exploring her sexuality and the cultural moors she collides with on a daily basis.

It's 1983 in Maryland and Catherine Stone is sex on wheels. She plays the field the way men have done for ions. Not content to strive for her MRS degree like so many young women her age, she seduces men of all stripes, married college professors, theatre students, virgins, complete strangers who intrigue her. She has already cost one man his job.

She asks herself lots of questions on her search to enjoy her sexuality. Why don't other women enjoy their sex as much as she does? Why do so many women and men look down on sexually free women, calling them sluts while sexually free men are called studs and Lotharios? She bucks at the double standards. Catherine has made no commitment to any man. She's free to explore and she gladly does so. No man can tie her down and no woman's judgment will stop her from playing the field to her heart's content.

Does she meet her match in a new man who introduces her to sexual bliss she had never before experienced? When she tries multiple partners and bondage for the first time as a submissive, she believes she's found the sexual bliss she is looking for, and with a man who not only introduces her to the fineries in life but also cares about her like no man ever has before.

EXCERPT:

Raindrops fell on Catherine's arms, and she knew it was time to depart. Ryan brushed his hand against his face as rain dripped on his brow. “We should get going before we get drenched.”

Catherine raced to his car with him following several yards behind. She leaned against the passenger door, turning her face up to catch the few scattered raindrops. Any second now and the sky would open with a deluge. Ryan stood a few feet away from her, giving her a quizzical look she couldn't quite read. Was he deciding what to do with her, since she was such a tempting tease who made it clear she wanted him? She closed her eyes and enjoyed the feel of the cool rain and the electric smell of a growing storm.

“I love the feel of rain on my face…” She did not get to finish her thought because Ryan took her up in his arms, kissing her so hard he bruised her lips. She felt a week's worth of pent-up passion in his embrace, and she wrapped her arms around his broad back, enjoying a kiss so intense it left her breathless. His tongue slid into her mouth, seeking every inch of her. She melted into his embrace, kissing him hungrily as she massaged the tense muscles in his shoulders. His erection poked at her leg as he pressed his groin into her. He wants me so much he can barely contain himself!

Hot New Release from Marie Rose Dufour!

My friend Marie Rose had her third release on Friday the 13th and though most call it unlucky day it was lucky for her. This cowboy book is heating up the e-readers. I'm currently reading the book and must say I have a new fascination with cowboys. :)
Check out the blurb and hot cover below!

Tasha Lane never realized how boring her life had become until one phone call in the middle of the night totally changed it. Can this forty-two year old accountant put aside a nine-year age gap and perpetual “foot in mouth” disorder to find love and happiness with an ex-rodeo star turned rancher?

Three years ago, Devin Grant traded the rodeo circuit for a cattle ranch. If someone told him, he would fall in love with a woman he’d never physically met, he’d think they were kicked too many times in the head by a bull. When her brother is thrown from his horse, it was finally time to meet the sexy woman of his dreams and convince her, he was worth taking a chance on.

Can he convince her before she goes back to her boring life? Will she be able to overcome their age difference and her own insecurities?

Friday, April 13, 2012

It's Friday the 13th. I know most get freaked out and fear the worst. Not me. I find it lucky. Call me crazy, but I do. I guess it's what you make it.

In other news today is a great day for other reasons! Today my friend Julia R Barrett was born. It's a day to celebrate.

Julia!

I have to recommend her books - especially Incorporeal and In the Flesh

Heat Waves - Available Now!

Blurb:

Ever wonder about the face behind the voice of a radio DJ?

Nina Walters has. She can’t get enough of disc jockey Ty’s sexy baritone. He has her masturbating to his voice daily. When he challenges his listeners to a contest Nina wants the upper hand. Lucky for her Cindy, her best friend works at the radio station.

Ty is offering a dream date, with him, to one lucky winner. He’s almost positive no one will guess the answer correctly. So, when Nina does he’s floored. Being a man of his word, he goes through with the date.

Sparks fly, but secrets linger. Will their heat for one another be enough to ride the waves of deception?

Excerpt:

“So are you tired?” she asked, lifting his shirt and running her fingers up his stomach.

Was he tired? How could he possibly be tired with such a sexy woman stirring his manhood awake?

“Depends. What did you have in mind?” he teased.

“A little of this.” She reached up and kissed his neck, while her hand worked the button of his jeans. “And a little of this.” She nibbled on his earlobe, rendering him useless.

He grabbed her and tossed her down on the seat. “I’m not tired in the least,” he said, tugging at her shirt. “I want to devour you.”

She squirmed under his touch. “I’m feeling a little sleepy.” She faked a yawn.

Ty loved a challenge. “You can go to sleep, but first let me show you what you’ll be missing.”

He brought his lips down on her breast. He felt the bud hardening under the heat of his breath. His fingers roamed her soft skin, searching for the other breast. When he reached his destination he tweaked the nipple between his fingers. She closed her eyes.

“Very sleepy.”

She was going to play that way, was she? He’d show her tired. Lifting her shirt over her head, she didn’t resist him, but she didn’t assist him either. Laying like dead weight she continued with her pretend sleep. But Ty knew it was only a matter of time before she stopped faking and joined in on the fun.

With her shirt off and her bra opened, he worked on shrugging her out of her jeans. It wasn’t easy, but he managed. Now she lay fully exposed – an open invitation to do whatever he pleased to her.

He placed gentle kisses on her flat stomach. Tiny hairs stood on edge, her skin prickled under his touch. She was becoming aroused. He could smell it in the air. He admired her perfectly trimmed pussy as he made his way to prove his point. As he drew closer to her pussy her arousal became more pronounced.

Sleeping, my ass. Let’s see you sleep through this.

Welcome Tina Donahue

I'd like to welcome back Tina. It's always such a pleasure to have her on my blog.

Sex Sells

We hear it all the time. We see it constantly in ads, TV programs, magazine and news stories. Sex sells. Big time. If it didn’t, it wouldn’t be such a big presence in popular culture.

So why then is it a source of contention for some when it comes to erotic romances? I read a post recently where another author asked the same question and some readers responded by saying they skipped love scenes in books. They just couldn’t read them.

I had to wonder – was it because the scenes weren’t written well? The characters hadn’t been portrayed with enough emotional depth? Or could it be that the scenes were gratuitous rather than stemming from the characters’ hearts and what was happening in the plot?

Trust me, as a writer of erotic romance nothing is more challenging to write than a great sex scene. And it’s not because I have to describe body parts or whether the characters are sighing, groaning, moaning or bellowing in satisfaction.

It’s the emotional build that’s difficult. During love scenes writers have to convey what’s in the characters’ minds and hearts. That—not what they’re doing—is what makes the story exciting and satisfying.

In the hands of a great erotic author like Emma Holly the scenes are magic. You’re with the heroine every step of the way. Hell, you want to be the heroine! Skipping that would be tragic.

With each new book I write, I push the envelope a bit more to give my fans the stories they deserve. Ones filled with desire, romance, love, conflict and an HEA that has them sighing and crying.

I pushed my own boundaries with my last book SiNN, my first ménage. And now my newest contemporary ménage Sinfully Wicked is available, also from Ellora’s Cave.

The story of Nikki, Connor and Mitch is even hotter than what I penned in SiNN, and like all of my other erotic romances, the love story, the emotional connection between the characters is to die for.

Here’s the blurb. Enjoy. :o)

Two brothers—one woman—unforgettable passion…
Years before Nikki fell in love with Mitch and Connor, betraying them as only a high school girl could. Now, she’s back and needs their help.

Powerful and commanding, Mitch has never stopped craving Nikki. Connor hungers for her as badly, but isn’t ready to forgive. If she needs some fast cash by working at their gentlemen’s club, she’ll have to audition by stripping for them.

Aroused by their shameless scrutiny, Nikki’s willing to do whatever it takes to be near them again…even being punished in the BDSM room or starring in one of Connor’s erotic films. Mitch won’t have it, unless he and Connor are the ones mounting and enjoying her.

On a sultry weekend, Nikki surrenders to their lust, dominance and exquisite discipline, reawakening their timeless bond and the beginning of forgiveness.

Welcome Miho Li

Incognito by Miho Li

April 5th & April 6th

Book Title: Incognito

Author: Miho Li

Genre: Contemporary, Erotica, Male/Male

Words: 25,377

Book Description:

"When Ren sees the new transfer student—Shin, black hair, storm-cloud-gray eyes, and more beautiful than any guy had a right to be—he makes it his mission to get to know him. Too bad Shin is about as sociable as fungus, and about as likable, too. But Ren isn't good at giving up, so he takes on the challenge of cracking Shin's titanium shell. What he finds underneath, though, is way more than he's prepared to handle.

People are disappearing in Akita, and Shin might be behind it. As Ren's feelings grow for the reserved man, so do the number of missing person reports, and Ren doesn't know if their budding relationship is enough to withstand both the well of secrets and the organization Shin works for."

Excerpt:

There was a heavy sigh and then, “Ren, just go talk to him already.”

Ren’s gaze snapped back to his friends. He flicked shaggy blond hair out of his eye and said, “What?”

“Shin,” Hideyoshi said, making vague hand gestures at the student Ren had been ogling.

Shin had settled in the grass beside a tree and was propping a book open in his lap. Messy strands of black hair fell across his pale cheeks, and he brushed it back with fingers that were surprisingly elegant for a guy.

“Go talk to him.”

Shin Sarutobi was a newly transferred junior, and despite sharing several classes, Ren had yet to find the right opportunity to talk to him. Not because he was intimidated but because Shin treated everyone around him, professors and students alike, with what barely qualified as cool indifference. He spoke in class when necessary but otherwise remained removed from everyone else and, from what Ren could tell, preferred it that way.

The exception was Kyouya Tsutano. Kyouya had transferred in about a month before Shin. It had been a big deal, what with his family being corporate millionaires. Rumor had it Kyouya’s dad died recently, and he had returned to Akita to live with his uncle.

From the start, Kyouya and Shin had a volatile relationship—they always looked pissed just being near each other. Except Ren had overheard them arrange meetings, and Kyouya remained the only person to date Shin spoke with on a regular basis.

Naturally, Ren assumed they were sleeping together. He entertained the theory that Shin and Kyouya were trapped in an unhealthy relationship based on angry but mind-blowing sex.

He chose not to share this theory with his friends.

In any case, the fact remained that Shin was a jerk. A gorgeous jerk with ink-black hair, intense gray eyes, and long legs that made him one of the few students taller than Ren, but a jerk nonetheless. Ren watched as a line formed between Shin’s brows, and he glanced in the direction Kyouya had gone with a sour twist of his lips.

Shin was also a jerk in dire need of an intervention.

Ren nodded decisively. “I’m going to talk to him.”

Hideyoshi gave him a flat look before apparently deciding against voicing what he was thinking. Ren ignored him and crossed the lawn with purposeful strides toward Shin.

With blond hair and blue eyes thanks to his European half, Ren wasn’t used to making the first move. Shin, however, was definitely worth the exception.

“Hi,” Ren said. He didn’t believe in pick-up lines.

Shin didn’t acknowledge the greeting.

Ren cleared his throat, undeterred. “Your friend looked pissed.”

Shin’s gaze lifted, passing dismissively over Ren’s smiling face before returning to his book.

“Uh...your boyfriend?” Ren said, hedging for a response.

Without lowering his book, Shin turned his head and looked up at Ren with ill-concealed impatience. “Did you want something?”

Ren considered this. “Should I answer that honestly?” Because there were a great many things that Ren wanted, including but not limited to Shin spread out on his bed in nothing but a silk ribbon.

Maybe it was best not to be quite so forthcoming yet.

About the Author:

Miho grew up on horror, fantasy, and romance novels (although she hid the romance novels, considering she probably shouldn't have been reading them at eleven years old). She started writing horror first, but these days, her work features more boys kissing boys than heads exploding, which everyone agrees is an improvement. She has a love of all things fantastical, and her favorite romances are the ones that don't happen easily. Reading or writing about characters overcoming adversity in order to reach their happy endings, whether that's together or not, is what fuels her love of the written word.
