Welcome Kay Berrisford

Can tree-shifters be sexy? Hell, yes!
I’m going to come clean about it. Phin, the hero of my new story Gifts from the Tree, is a tree-shifter. He is, to be fair, a tree-shifter with a difference, who spends his days masquerading as a university lecturer … and I’d better not give away too much more, as that would ruin the story.
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about a tree-shifter. Although I’ve never had one as a main character before, The Green Man, a sylvan shifter, is a significant character in two of my Greenwood books, Bound for the Forest and Lord of the Forest (and he even gets some sexy action in the first!) I’m kind of nervous about introducing Phin to the world, however, because popular as shifters are in general, trees certainly aren’t as fashionable as wolves and panthers. Indeed, I’ve had people say to me that trees a) aren’t sexy and b) are just too different from human beings for the whole shifter thing to work.
These are all valid opinions, but I disagree. Of course it can work! Trees are beautiful, vibrant, living creatures, which are as variable as human beings. They can be young and sprightly, sturdy and wise, smooth and sensuous to touch, or craggy and rough. Yes, it takes a leap of imagination to give a tree a personality and a mind, but that’s what paranormal fiction is for, right? And let’s face it, us humans owe a lot to trees. They produce the very air we breathe.
So while they might not be everyone’s cup of tea, I hope that some of you will make the leap of faith and give my sexy Celtic tree-shifter a try.
Gifts from the Tree
Blurb: When Phin deserts James on Christmas Eve, offering vague excuses, James is left wondering how well he knows the man he’s been seeing. Phin, an expert on forest mythology, clearly has secrets, which doesn’t make James feel any better as he faces Christmas alone. But when an attempt to collect a Christmas tree takes a strange and magical turn, James finds out the supernatural happenings in the woods and Phin’s absence could be linked.

My Thanksgiving to Christmas Time Travel story, Simon, Sex, and the Solstice Stone is OUT NOW.
Blurb: Simon’s holiday season is looking grim. His boyfriend’s dumped him, and his self-esteem is rock bottom. Stuck in the UK where nobody celebrates Thanksgiving, the shy, geeky student drowns his sorrows at an ancient stone circle. When a gorgeous stranger, Aubrey, shows up and attempts to seduce him, Simon is flattered but also freaked—especially when Aubrey claims to be from an historic sex cult who’d uncovered the true powers of the circle. It’s a time machine. Aubrey intended to travel back three hundred and sixty-five days, but an error propelled him forward three hundred and sixty-five years into a world alien to him.
Simon reluctantly takes the lost time traveler under his wing, and Aubrey teaches Simon the ways of sex, love, and magic. Simon’s never felt so alive, but as their bond grows, Aubrey remains determined to perform a dangerous ritual and return home at the winter solstice. Fearing he’s no more to Aubrey than a sexual sacrifice, Simon must discover the dark secrets of Aubrey’s pagan past. Only then can Simon choose between risking all for the man he loves or a lonely Christmas without him. Buy it now.

I Missed A Post

I'm visiting Kate Hill today - Nov 11th.

Spread Thin

I realize you haven’t heard from me in a bit. I have a ton going on in my life. First I took on a second full time job. It’s only supposed to last through the end of the year, but with a daughter getting married next summer, the holidays and the growing cost of health insurance – I needed to do this.

The best part is it’s not in retail, which I was afraid I’d have to do. Not that I don’t like retail, but I have an allergy to late nights; something required around the holiday.

And if I didn’t have enough on my plate I’m doing my own version of Nano. I’m 26k into the book and going strong. If I make it through November it’ll be a miracle. J

What’s everyone else up to? I’d love to hear what you’re doing.
