Blurb:

Ben Eckhart has been the object of Kari Kirkland’s lust for almost three years. Yet he’s never spoken a word to her and why would he? She’s a plus-sized woman with scars that haunt her every day. And although Kari longs for happily ever after, she's pretty much given up on love.
When their boss declares he’s having a mandatory picnic, Ben not only talks to Kari, he wants to know if she’s going and if she’ll be alone. Kari is, if only to fantasize about Ben in his swim shorts.
But Ben has other ideas in mind for Kari. He’s bringing along his best friend and lover Adam - to help him seduce Kari into believing there's great sex and true love in her future.
Unexpectedly trapped on a deserted island, Kari witnesses the men having sex then lets herself get talked into sex on the beach and a whole lot more. But when they're rescued, will Kari accept their proposition or cast their newfound love Adrift?

Excerpt:

“I expect everyone to be there.” Mr. Carlton stood up and continued talking to the small group in the conference room. “My wife looks forward to this every year, so I don’t want to disappoint her. There will be boats at the dock to take people back and forth to Carlton Island.”
Kari cringed just thinking about getting into a boat and being escorted over to her boss’s island. The last thing she wanted to do over her weekend was spend it with him and fellow coworkers. Kari enjoyed the peace and serenity of her apartment. She didn’t have to make small talk except with Pepper, her cat.
Last year she’d been able to get out of the company picnic, but something told her this time she wouldn’t be so lucky.
“This is bullshit.”
Kari swiveled her chair to see who else felt like she did, but was brave enough to voice his opinion. She was met with the most amazing blue eyes.
Ben.
Her heart caught in her throat. Was he speaking to me?
Ben Eckhart hadn’t uttered a word to her in the three years he’d worked at Carlton Technologies. Kari had admired him from afar, knowing he’d never be interested in someone like her. She wasn’t a size 2 pinup model like Ben probably dated.
“Does he think we don’t have a life outside of work?”
He was talking to her.
Hanging out on her deck with a book wasn’t in the cards for her this weekend.
“Have you ever been?” he asked.
“Once. I’ve managed to escape all the other yearly get-togethers, but I don’t see that happening this weekend.”
“I heard people have gotten let go for not attending.”
She’d heard that too, but thankfully it hadn’t happened to her. With the economy in dire straits, she wasn’t risking it this year. “That’s what they say. I can’t afford to take any chances. I’ll be going.”
“Me too, I guess.”
Kari groaned inwardly. She didn’t want to spend the weekend lusting over Ben. At work she could cover up her scars, but on Carlton Island she’d be expected to dress more casually.
Maybe she could think of a way out of this.
“Spouses and significant others are more than welcome too,” Mr. Carlton continued.
Kari turned her attention back to her boss. Right about now, she wished she had someone in her life she could bring along to ease the pain of watching Ben. Fortunately he wasn’t aware of her feelings for him.
He leaned closer to her chair and whispered in her ear. “You bringing someone?” Heat from his breath trickled down her neck, straight to her core. Images of Ben wearing only swim trunks filled her mind. She pictured a hard, smooth chest and abs of steel she could run her fingers along.
“No,” she snapped.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.”
She swiveled her chair slightly and glanced over her shoulder. His lips were close. Close enough that if she leaned just a little bit, she could graze them with her own. “I didn’t mean to snap. I’m just really frustrated about having to go this weekend. I’m going alone.”
“Hmmm. I guess I’ll see you there.”
“Guess so.”
Mr. Carlton ended the meeting. Kari gathered her notebook, pen, and coffee mug before heading back to her office. She wondered if Ben would be coming alone or if he would be bringing some lucky lady.
She prayed he came alone. He’d broken the ice by talking to her in the meeting. Maybe they could get to know each other better over the weekend.
As she sat in her chair, she realized she was fooling herself. Ben would never be interested in a size 12 disfigured woman. Even if he did show an interest, Kari couldn’t take her clothes off for him. Her scars were a reminder that she’d never have a love life again. It was bad enough that the memories of that horrible night still haunted her; visible scars stared back from the mirror. They screamed at her, taunting that she’d be lonely the rest of her life.
* * * * *
Try as she might, Kari couldn’t find a way out of the weekend. She packed enough clothes for the overnight excursion. Maybe she could feign sickness later in the evening. Surely Mr. Carlton would understand her leaving if she was sick.
Kari parked her car in the parking lot just above the boat launch. Grabbing her overnight bag from the trunk, she made her way to the dock. There wasn’t anyone waiting, and the boat ferrying people to the island was nowhere in sight.
She set her bag down and leaned against a wooden pole, waiting for the boat to return. The warm sun cascaded its rays down on her. Sweat beaded on her forehead. She’d have to remove the sweater she’d worn over her tank top soon.
“Hey, are you waiting for the boat?”
Wariness crept into her body. Kari was certain she knew that voice but prayed it wasn’t him.
“Kari!”
She used her hand to shade the sun from her eyes; even with sunglasses, the brightness was blinding. She looked toward the voice calling her name. Sure enough, it was Ben. He wasn’t alone; he was with another guy, who appeared to be around five-ten, Ben’s height. He had jet-black hair, a contrast to Ben’s sandy blond.
They dressed like twins in khaki cargo shorts and tight T-shirts. Ben’s was hunter green, and his friend’s an orange color. As they drew nearer, she noticed they moved in sync. Were they lovers? Their motions were as familiar as a couple. She dismissed the idea. Ben had seemed interested in her during the conference. He couldn’t be gay. They each carried backpacks in one hand and a cooler in the other, swinging it as they walked.
She hadn’t thought about bringing anything to drink. She had assumed Mr. Carlton would provide all the food and drinks they needed.
“Hey, Ben,” she said as they drew nearer.
“This is Adam. Adam, this is Kari. We work on the project management team together.”
“Nice to meet you, Kari.”
He placed the cooler on the ground and offered her a hand. She accepted. Tingling sensations filled her body. She pulled her hand back quickly, afraid he’d sense her arousal at his touch.
“The boat’s not here right now,” she said, looking out at the water.
“We’re not taking Mr. Carlton’s boat,” Ben said. “I have my own. Want to join us?”
Absolutely not!
She was not getting into a boat with these two gorgeous guys.
“Thanks for the offer, but I’ll wait for the boat.”
“Are you sure? There’s no one else here. At least you can talk to us on the ride over.”
Ben had a point, but Kari couldn’t get her mind off him. Being on a boat making small talk should produce warm, fuzzy emotions, but she was nervous. She didn’t know what to talk about with either of them.
“Come on,” Adam urged. “We won’t bite.”
Too bad.
What the hell was she thinking? Neither of them would be interested in her.
“Please.”
Kari swung her head toward Ben. He’d moved to her side and whispered softly. Was she imagining it, or was there desire in his eyes? He looked like he was undressing her with those crystal blue eyes. For a moment she allowed herself to be mesmerized.
She swallowed the moan that threatened to escape and said, “Yes, please.”
Adam touched her arm, and Kari felt faint. How could she resist when they were practically begging?
“Okay, you’ve convinced me. I’ll go with you guys.” She took a step back, regaining some of her personal space. She couldn’t help but wonder if she’d made the right decision.
Getting into a boat all alone with two men who made her skin prickle with desire was not a good idea. Warning bells went off in the back of her mind, but Kari ignored them. At this point she had nothing to lose. What could go wrong? It was a simple boat ride with Ben and Adam to Carlton Island. A twenty-minute ride making idle chitchat. She could survive it.
“Wonderful.” Ben placed a hand on the small of her back. “Let’s get to this party.”
“You’ll be happy you joined us.” Adam laid a hand just above Ben’s.
Weak in the knees, Kari placed one foot in front of the other, trying to keep from falling. If they knew how they were affecting her, they didn’t show it.
They led her down the dock to Ben’s boat. It was large speedboat. The name Lady Luck was stenciled on the side.
Hmmm, would she have luck? Would she finally get to know Ben on a deeper level, or would he forever remain part of her fantasies?
Adam offered her a hand, guiding her off the dock into the rocking vessel. Once inside, Kari immediately took a seat at the rear. She’d taken a pill to keep the queasiness at bay, and with any luck, it would work. It would be very embarrassing if she was to get sick on Ben’s boat.
Ben disappeared below the deck for a few minutes. When he returned, he was wearing sunglasses and a Red Sox baseball cap. A true New Englander. Even in the hat, he was sexy.
Apparently Adam thought so too, because he leaned over and kissed Ben full on the lips. Kari’s mouth hung open. So much for wanting them or worrying about having an oversize body.
Her mouth was still open when they turned to ask her if she was ready.
“Something wrong?” Ben asked.
“Uh…umm…I...” What the hell could she say? Sorry I didn’t realize you guys were gay. That didn’t seem appropriate. “I’m fine,” she said. She averted her gaze. Any ideas of being with either of them were dashed by that kiss.
“Shall we get this show on the road?” Ben clapped his hands and rubbed them together.
“I’m ready.” Kari felt some of the nervousness wash away. If nothing else, she could be friends with both men. It was easier than lusting over Ben. When they returned to work on Monday, she’d have a different perspective on her attraction to him.
The boat roared to life under Ben’s touch. Kari settled in for the ride to Carlton Island.
Adam joined her on the cushioned seat. “So how long have you been with Carlton Technologies?”
“Seven years.”
“Wow. I didn’t think people lasted that long at a company anymore.”
She laughed. He was right. Most people didn’t. She wasn’t sure if it was luck or the fact that Mr. Carlton took pity on her after the accident. She had spent almost a month in the hospital and then suffered through a few more months in physical therapy before returning to work. She’d cheated death; Walter hadn’t been as fortunate.
“I’ve been blessed.” She avoided his stare so that he couldn’t see the pain in her eyes. Whenever she thought about that dreadful night, images came crashing to the forefront.
“Ben hasn’t been there that long, maybe three years.”
“Yup, three years next month.” Shit, that had slipped out too quickly.
Adam chuckled.
“Wow. He has an anniversary coming up.”
Kari shrugged. “I’m not really sure. I could be wrong.”
God, she hoped she brushed that off. The last thing she needed was Adam realizing she’d lusted over Ben since he joined the company.
“No problem.”
They made idle chitchat. It seemed to be taking forever to get to the island.
“Is everything okay?” Adam asked Ben.
Ben slowed the boat until it idled in the choppy water. “I’m not sure where we are. I thought we’d be there by now.”
“Are you serious?” Kari panicked. This was not funny. She knew she should’ve stayed on the dock and waited for the transportation Mr. Carlton was providing.
“I’m afraid I am. And there’s another tiny little issue.”
Kari’s pulse rate increased. The pounding in her chest ran straight up to her ear. It sounded like a drum beating right next to her.
“What’s wrong?” Adam asked.
Kari was thankful he had asked, because she didn’t have the nerve.
“I think we’re running low on gas. None of the gauges seem to be working.”
“Unbelievable. Are you telling me we’re stuck out here in the middle of nowhere?”
“No. I’m saying, I think we’re running low on gas and should find a place to dock the boat.”
Kari looked around. There was land in the distance, but she wasn’t sure if it was Mr. Carlton’s or even if they had the fuel to make it that far.
“Is that the island we’re looking for?” She pointed in the direction of the land.
“Let’s find out.” Ben quickly returned to the wheel, gunned the engine, and sped off.
“Should I be worried?” Kari demanded from Adam.
“Nah. He’s terrific. He’ll find the way. I have faith in him.”
Kari wished she felt the same, but right about now she was losing all hope of making it to Carlton Island. She just prayed she’d have a job come Monday.

Whet Your Appetite Wednesday

Welcome to Whet Your Appetite Wednesday. Each week I'll offer you a snippet from one of my books. This week comes from Adrift.

Kari remained silent for what seemed an eternity. Ben wanted to prompt her and then decided against it. She had to make a decision on her own. If he pushed, he could push her away. Something he definitely didn’t want to do.
When Kari finally spoke, she took Adam and Ben by surprise. “I’ll admit being confused.”
“Confused about what?” Adam asked.
Ben was relieved Adam had finally found his voice.
“Why me? Why now? And why would two male lovers want to be with a woman?”
Ben chuckled. “We’re not totally gay. We’re bisexual. I’ve been with women.”
“Me too, on occasion. Now I’m committed to Ben.” He reached over and patted Bends hand.
“As far as the why you, I told you, I’ve been admiring you from afar. I believe you’ve been doing the same with me.”
She looked away, toward the water, as if searching for answers. Kari turned back to them. “I’ll admit I’ve had a secret crush on you, but that was before. I hadn’t realized you were in an obviously loving relationship with a man.”
“Bi. You have to understand; we love women too.”
She seemed to be considering their offer. She hadn’t been repulsed at the idea, so that was a good sign. “Whatever you want to call yourself. You’re in a relationship together. I don’t understand how I’d fit in.”
“We both want to love you, Kari,” Adam said.
Oh thank God for Adam. Ben was afraid to come right out and say it, but Adam had the frankness. He told it like it was, and he had a difficult time lying. Not that Ben prided himself on lying, but he could keep a secret if he had to, where Adam could not. He was surprised Adam hadn’t confessed all this to Kari already.
“You want me to join in on your happiness. You want me to be part of you?”

The Waiting Begins and Continues...

I subbed to my editor yesterday and she informed me she’s swamped and it will likely be a fully eight weeks before I hear something. Understandable. Besides, what can I do, but wait. I’m also coming up on the 2 month mark of waiting to hear from Carina Press. Hey two months down, two more to go! LOL
As a writer waiting is the HARDEST part. A million thoughts go through my mind while waiting.
Will the editor think what I wrote sucks? Will she think – OMG, what kind of garbage is she trying to pass off as a story? It’s the fear I have with every single submission. I hope someday those fears go away. Something tells me that’s not going to happen.
In other news I received a fabulous review from Miz Love over at Miz Love Loves Books. The review is for Adrift…one of my favorite books. She gave it a Hot Stuff #1
If you want to check it out here is the link!

On the Mend

I'm slowly making my way back. While I'm not fully ready to enter the world of the living, I can in short spurts. Thanks to all of you who emailed asking how I'm doing. I truly appreciate your emails and kind words.

Today I have two reviews to share with you. One is for Play With Me, the final book in the Freedom Fantasies series. Terrihawk over at Night Owl Reviews had some nice things to say. You can read the review here.

Kimberley Spinney over at Sensual Reads had wonderful things to say about Adrift. You can read that review here.

That's all I have for today. Friday begins my 12 days of Christmas contest. I'll be giving away a book a day during the contest. Friday also marks my release of Naughty St. Nick from Aspen Mountain. Don't forget to stop back.

Happy Birthday to Me

This was the right way to start my birthday, A JERR review!

Title: Adrift
Author: Amber Skyze
Publisher: Loose Id
Reviewer: Gabrielle Lee
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Heat level: H

Kari has hidden herself away from the world because of one awful night and the scars that came from it. She has had a crush on her coworker Ben since he has come to work at her office. Little does she know but he has his eyes set on her and intends to bring her out of her shell. He sees more than just her outside appearance, he sees her soul and wants to share the love he and Adam have with her.
I was pulled into Adrift right from the start. Kari is a strong woman. She has lost and survived. Now all she needs is someone like Ben and Adam to bring her out of hiding. Ben is a wonderful man who loves with all his heart and wears it on his sleeve. Adam is a sweet man as well. He loves Ben and will protect him no matter what. As strong as the bond is between the two men it only becomes stronger when Kari enters the picture. When the three finally come together as a threesome they do more than have sex. The two men make love to Kari showing her that they care about her not her scars. Making it a very emotional experience for all. Adrift is a wonderful read that takes you on a roller coaster ride of love and emotions. I enjoyed this sweet, sexy love story and will be looking for more stories from this author in the future.

Home Again!

Wow! I feel like I’ve been out of touch with the real world for a week. Oh, I have. I returned late last night from Romanticon 2010. Ellora’s Cave puts on one helluva party. I drooled all over the cavemen. LOL
When Angelo walked in to the meet and greet, my DH said, “Oh I know him, he’s plastered all over the house.”
This is true. He’s on the cover of Dante’s Desire, which I think is one hot cover. I must say, Angelo is ten times hotter in person and his accent will melt you. I know a Latin lover will show up in a future book.
I also got to meet an amazing group of authors. I formed new friendships and bonded with many I’ve known online. My hubby was a great sport about being at a conference. A few women brought their husbands.
I came home to so much good news. First Adrift received a Top Pick 5 star review from Night Owl Reviews. If you’d like to see what they had to say, check it out here:
http://www.nightowlreviews.com/nor/Reviews/Ursshebear-reviews-Adrift-by-Amber-Skyze.aspx

Adrift was also the Fresh pick on October 9th over at Fresh Fiction. Talk about publicity. Do you know how many people they reach daily? I couldn’t ask for better promo. :0)
Lastly, I received a contract for my Christmas story – Naughty St. Nick. It will be released on December 10th from Aspen Mountain Press. They published my first Christmas story two years ago. YAY.
Today I have to spend the day getting caught up around the house and at work. I’m hoping to get some pics up from Romanticon and finish the quickie I was working on before I left.

Another Rainy Day and Mean People Suck

You know the saying When it Rains it Pours? Well today is one of those days. Last night I went to bed having to deal with an issue I thought we put behind us last school year. It seems the girl who was tormenting my daughter about the loss of her brother has started up again. Of course L was very upset by her taunts. I got to witness firsthand what the girl was saying when my daughter showed me on Facebook. So now I’m dealing with the police and a cyber bullying issue.
Then I wake to learn a close friend has lost her husband unexpectedly. My heart goes out to her and her family. To make matters worse another good friend had some unfortunate things happen to her. Enough already.
I’m not sure what I had planned to blog about originally, but needless to say it’s gone.
On a side note, my Loose Id Adrift is up for Favorite 5 Heart Review over at The Romance Studio; if you would like to vote please do so here. http://theromancestudio.com/5heart_form.php
I’m up against some awesome writers so I’ll understand if you cast a vote for someone else. J
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
Happy Tuesday!

A Good Day

First off I have to give a big Thank You to the wonderful and talented Selena Illyria, who has once again pointed me in the direction of an awesome review of mine. I also would like to thank Theresa, at The Romance Studio for the fantastic review of Adrift.
As all writers’ do, I fretted over how this new book would be received. It was my first time writing M/M/F. I’ve written many ménage’s, but they were all M/F/M. Adrift was a hit with TRS. A Five Heart review! To read it go here:
http://theromancestudio.com/reviews/reviews/adriftskyze.htm
In other news I’ve finished my latest wip, a contemporary M/F, called Sex on the Beach (tentatively titled). I’m going to let it sit for a few days before I edit and send it off.
The warm weather had returned to New England. I spent a few hours on the pool deck yesterday and hope to get a few more in today. The day job has quieted down for this month so I get to enjoy some leisure time. Also all my promo stuff is pretty much done for Romanticon. I can’t believe it’s only two weeks away. I can’t wait to meet all my awesome friends and fellow authors.
Fran Lee and I will be doing a Reader based workshop. I’ll also be joining the lovely ladies of the Cougar Challenge series for a workshop…oh and tomorrow I’ll be showcasing my lovely new Cougar cover art. The lovely Syneca has worked her magic yet again.
Happy Thursday!

Release Day

Talk about a crazy day. I overslept and my day job is insane, but enough of that.

Today is release day for me. My first book with Loose Id. I'm very excited about this book and enjoying writing about a heroine who wasn't Barbie sized. Check out Adrift available now.

Here's a little taste. If you want more there's a longer excerpt up on the Loose Id website. :o)

“I expect everyone to be there.” Mr. Carlton stood up and continued talking to the small group in the conference room. “My wife looks forward to this every year, so I don’t want to disappoint her. There will be boats at the dock to take people back and forth to Carlton Island.”

Fran Lee's Newest Release

I received my cover art for Adrift. I absolutely love it. There’s only one small issue and I’m waiting to see how it’s handle. Hopefully I’ll be able to show it to you by Tuesday. Only 11 more days until my first release with Loose-Id. I’m very excited. I’ll also be celebrating the release of Book 2 of the Freedom Fantasies series: Spend The Night With Me, the very next day.
Yesterday I didn’t get any writing done, but I managed to capture my dream from the night before. It was a vivid dream of a spaceship coming looking for me. My husband was holding a tiny baby boy on his chest, but it wasn’t my real life husband. It was the guy I based my hero on, from Dante’s Desire. Who cares you ask? Well, I’m writing an alien based story, or will be starting one soon. This dream gave me a glimpse into my story. I’ve heard other writers say they dream their stories all the time and I thought they were crazy – until it happened to me! LOL Go figure right.
Anyway, I’m struggling to finish my second submission to Loose-Id. I’m at 10k and it needs another 15k. I must write this weekend.
In other news, Hurricane Earl was threatening us, but has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. We are expected to get heavy rains and strong gusts of winds, but not the original weather they predicted. YAY. They also said we shouldn’t be concerned with flooding. Another HUGE YAY. Our state is still recovering from the historic floods in March. We can’t afford any more flooding right now.
I’m going to end today with the newest release from my lovely talented friend Fran Lee. I’ve been waiting for this book to become available and it has today. I say rush over to EC and grab your copy! Here’s a little taste of what you’ll get from Woman On Fire.

Blurb:
Azrael Thunder Horse never thought another Anglo woman could possibly knock him for a loop after leaving Hollywood. Despite the instant shot of lust he feels when he first lays eyes on his new Native American Studies teacher, he’s determined to get rid of her. After all…she misled him with that damn Indian name of hers! But the stubborn redhead has a thing or two to say when he tries to fire her.

Cheyenne Red Wolf has never met a more maddening, arrogant, downright irritating man. He hates her on sight. Too bad he’s the hottest thing she’s ever seen…and her new boss. The man tried to fire her because she wasn’t a “real” Indian. Good thing he can’t stand her, because she sure as hell wouldn’t be able to say no to all that sexy, hardheaded, Lakota masculinity.

“Can I help you?” Her quickly pasted-on smile was polite and pleasant. Probably a parent, checking out the new teacher. Damn. They didn’t build single males like him these days.
Night-dark eyes slid past her, wandered around the classroom slowly, and then returned to her. Eyes that would normally have set her pulse off like a shot, but these held a cold, aloof quality that let her know she was beneath his interest.
“Is Ms. Red Wolf still here?” The dark-chocolate voice held a quiet, tense note.
“I’m Cheyenne Red Wolf.” She repeated the polite smile. “How can I help you?”
The look of shock in those obsidian eyes made her bite back a grin. It wasn’t an unusual reaction to her definitely un-Indian looks attached to a very Indian name. But the desire to grin dissolved the instant those eyes turned angry.
“You are Cheyenne Red Wolf? Our new Native American Studies teacher?” Every word was clipped and reflected a fury that was barely held at bay.
She moved away from the bookshelf and resisted the urge to cross her arms defensively over her chest. The animosity rolling off that man was enough to choke her. It was only through sheer willpower that she didn’t cut and run. He took a step toward her and she had to crane her neck to meet his glare. She drew herself up to her tallest possible height which wasn’t much over five foot six in shoes and lifted her chin slightly in answer to his unspoken but clearly heard challenge. Damn! She wished now that she’d worn heels.
Forcing her voice to remain softly calm wasn’t easy. “I am. And you are…?” she coached gently, refusing to retreat as he invaded her personal space with all that hulking, broad-shouldered menace he exuded.
His eyes moved from the copper-penny red hair she’d dragged back into a bun before her first class, all the way down her fuzzy blue cardigan sweater and travel-wrinkled beige linen slacks to her vintage fifties penny loafers, then back with a disbelieving insolence that was as insulting as it was scary. Every nerve in her body screamed at her to take a few steps back and get a desk between them, but she’d be damned if she’d let him intimidate her.
She had no real reason to fear him, after all—it was broad daylight and they were in a school full of—empty classrooms. Oh, shit. As the realization hit her that regular classes had let out over half an hour ago, and most of the teachers were gone for the day, she inhaled slowly and wondered if maybe it might be wiser if she turned tail and sprinted for the still open door.
But her common sense returned after one panicky moment, and she frowned at her own silliness. What the hell was he gonna do? Attack her? He was understandably shocked to find a non-Native American woman teaching a class that should by all rights be taught by a Native American. There were a lot of Native Americans who resented what she did, simply because she was not one of them. Not really. And being one in spirit didn’t quite cut the mustard.
She made a point of glancing at her watch and lifted her eyes back to his face. “I really can’t take time to go over lesson plans right now. If you’ll just tell me which student is yours, I can give you a call tomorrow—”
“There’s been a mistake, Ms. Red Wolf.” The voice was low and controlled.
“A mistake?” She had to work damn hard to keep a tremor of anger out of her own voice.
Those almost-too-damn-sexy-to-be-real lips twisted into a sneer as he seemed to loom even closer in the suddenly airless classroom. “A big one.”
Her breath caught in her throat and she hated the fact that she was shaking under his glare. “If you have a problem with me teaching this class, you’ll need to take it up with Mr. Wyatt or Ms. Running Deer of the school board. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have someone waiting.” A lie was better than letting him think she had no backup here.
“He can keep on waiting.” The clipped statement startled her, but only because it was coupled with another forward movement of that intimidating body that had somehow moved so close she could feel the heat sizzling off him through her clothes.
This guy had absolutely no friggin’ concept of personal space.
She suddenly decided that retreat was entirely acceptable under such unfriendly fire. She took a quick step backward and felt the bite of a wooden desk on the soft flesh of her fanny. The startled gasp she gave seemed to make those nearly black eyes darken even more, and she blushed hotly to have let him know he frightened her. Her temper rose.
When under attack, counter attack, Frank had always said.
“Excuse me—whoever you are—but if you have a complaint about me teaching your child, like I said, take it up with the school board and the principal, who felt I was very well qualified—”
She gave a yelp of shock as a book that had been too close to the edge of the desk she was nearly sitting on fell to the floor with a resounding smack, and she jumped away from the desk automatically, coming into full frontal contact with her tormentor. And he didn’t miss a beat as he caught her around the waist with a pair of lean, strong hands and glared down at her.
His beautiful lip curled. “Just like a woman—trying to use any weapon at hand to avoid the consequences of her actions.” His voice was scathing and she blinked up at him, not getting his meaning.
“Weapon? Consequences? What the hell are you talking about?” she gasped and shoved at his hands without much success as she twisted to try to get free.
“Those weapons.” He hissed a breath inward through his teeth as her hips twisted against his. Her movements brought her generous chest tight against his. His rasping words instantly halted her movements as she realized what he was talking about and her eyes widened in horror, then narrowed in fury. Damn, but the man was blaming her for his own actions now.
“If you will take your hands off me, I will happily remove my weapons from your vicinity,” she hissed, her temper flaring at his insinuation that she was trying to use sex to escape whatever “consequences” he imagined were due her. It didn’t take a Rhodes Scholar to get his meaning and it didn’t take much imagination to realize their confrontation had produced a hard-on from hell on his part. It was jabbing against her belly quite insistently. It had already grown even larger and more dangerous in the several seconds they’d been plastered together.
For a moment, he didn’t respond, and in that tense moment she sensed that he was considering his next response with extreme care. Her incensed glare met his and she waited with lips compressed and indignant fury in her expression. Dark eyes warred with blue. It became a battle of wills as he remained tautly silent, staring down into her furious face without any change in his expression of angry disdain. His hands remained firmly clamped around her body, making it impossible to move away without a struggle, and she’d be damned if she was going to give him his jollies by wiggling and twisting against him to try to get loose again. His hands were long and powerful. The pads of his fingertips rested firmly on the upper swell of her buttocks. The sensations running rampant inside her traitorous pussy were indescribable.
After what felt like hours of silent, glaring antagonism so thick it could easily be cut with a knife, she irritably decided the only way she was going to get him to let go of her was to say something. She slowly drew a shaky breath and spoke in a low, careful tone like one might use when talking to a suicide jumper on a ledge. “How about you and me calling a truce? You take your hands off me, and we’ll both back away. Then maybe you can calmly tell me what the hell you are so damn bent out of shape over.”

Traveling

I’m sitting in a hotel in Augusta Maine. It was sunny earlier and now the clouds are rolling in. I’m optimistic that it will be temporary. I’m working the day job, while the hubby is working his. He’s gone for a few hours, so I’m also working on my edits! Woo Hoo, right? I’ve managed to get through half the book. I’m hoping to finish by 5 so when I shut down my work laptop I can put these behind me too.
I’m looking forward to exploring the area. We’re going to Freeport to do some shopping in the outlets. My sweetheart hubby got us a different hotel for tomorrow, one that overlooks the ocean. I’m looking forward to that! I thinking inspiration.
Other than that I became a little under the weather again last night. Not sure what’s going on there. I refuse to be sick on our mini vacation!
Off to work on edits!
Happy Thursday.

Depressing...

It’s been raining here for the last four days straight. Cloudy, damp and dreary. I’m dressed in sweats and a sweatshirt and I’m not happy about it. I’m not a cold weather person. This weather is making me depress and I’m being lazy. I have so much to do. I need the sun to come back out and shine.
The DH and I will likely leave this afternoon for Maine for a few days. The sun better be shining there. LOL
Edits are beckoning me and I’m ignoring them. I have til the 28th, but really want them back to my editor before I leave. I just can’t find the ambition to actually open them.
On a better note – Submit With Me received 4 Hearts from The Romance Studio. Kudos to the reviewer Michele and to my wonderful friend Selena Illyria, who sent me the heads up. Thanks!!!!
Happy Hump Day!

New Release Date

Adrift my first book from Loose-Id has a new release date - Sept 14th. Originally it was supposed to be released on Nov 9th. I'm not complaining. In fact, I'm super excited. I've written plenty M/F/M, but this is my first M/M/F.
With the change of date I'm anxiously awaiting cover art.

Here is a brief blurb to get you ready for the real thing. LOL

Ben Eckhart has been the object of Kari Kirkland’s lust for almost three years. Yet he’s never spoken a word to her and why would he? She’s a plus-sized woman with scars that haunt her every day. When their boss declares he’s having a mandatory picnic. Ben not only talks to Kari, he wants to know if she’s going and if she’ll be alone. She is, if only to fantasize about Ben in his swim shorts.
Ben has other ideas in mind for Kari. He’s bringing along his best friend and lover Adam. Together they’ll try to convince Kari that love, sex and a threesome are in her future.
What they didn’t expect was to be stranded on a deserted island. After having sex with Adam and Ben will Kari succumb to their proposition or leave them Adrift?

Happy Thursday!

Craziness Magnified

So life is just insane. Yesterday I celebrated the release of Submit With Me, correction, I wanted to celebrate. My only wish was to spend the day promoting this little quickie on all the various loops, only I received edits for Play With Me. Now I’m not complaining because edits means a release date in the near future and with Spend The Night With Me releasing Sept 15th, I’d love for this book to follow shortly thereafter.
Play With Me is the final book in the Freedom Fantasies series. I happened to write this book first so needless to say there are a few edits to be made and loose ends to clean up. It’s more edits than I’ve seen in awhile and for some reason my brain freezes up when I have to make larger changes. I wish I knew why so I could remedy it, but I don’t.
Speaking of the series, Tuesday I received the cover art for Spend The Night With Me. I’m jumping up and down because Syneca nailed it. With Pretend With Me I asked for a manor or mansion on the cover because that’s where all the stories take place. I didn’t get what I asked for, but the cover was still yum worthy. What can I say Syneca is awesome. This time I received my vision. I want to share it with you, but have to wait that darn three days. Tomorrow I’ll happily showcase it! :o)
In other news, if my life couldn’t get any crazier, I received final edits for Adrift this morning. Now I’m working on two sets of edits. It’s a good thing I work from home. I don’t know how people work a full time job outside the home and publish. Personally I’m not sure I could handle it.
I did get a release date for Adrift – November 9th. I’m excited, but not rushing this release. November means winter and as most of you know Amber doesn’t like winter. LOL
I can’t wait to see what the cover artists come up with for Adrift.
So instead of playing today, I’ll be buried in edits. If you don’t hear from me send HELP! *big grins*
Happy Thursday!

TGIF

These are my plans for today!
I'm toast. No writing, unless final edits arrive for Adrift.
I sent off the synopsis and first three chapter of my romantic comedy yesterday. I could edit more, but I don't feel like it.
If you're looking for a good laugh drop by Mia Watts blog. She's priceless! :)
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
