Friday Update

Today is my last day before vacation from the day job. It’s a much needed a vacation. We’re not going away there’s too much to do around the house, that can’t get done while working our stressful jobs. It’s okay, because the weathermen aren’t offering a promise of sunny days.
Our true vacation will be in August when we go to Virginia. I’m looking forward to that vacation, but not rushing the summer away by any means. As you know I’m a huge fan of summer.
We’ve been talking about moving to Texas or Florida. We’re both sick of the New England weather. The move will take place in two years when my 16yr old graduates from high school. Unless she goes to live with someone else before then and the way things are going that’s a huge possibility too.
My mom and son are coming for a three day visit. Tomorrow I’m throwing a birthday party for both my mom and husband. I had hoped the kids could use the pool, but it doesn’t seem likely. It’ll still be a good time.
I’m hoping to finish writing my current wip Trapt in Troy, while on vacation. This book is the first in my new Rock Band series. A surprise popped up in this book I didn’t see coming. A female singer will cause issues for Troy and Katherine. Journey, the sexy singer will get her own book down the line. She definitely has a story to tell.
Next week I’ll start the countdown to my new release – Operation: Second Honeymoon. A new M/F/M coming from Loose Id.

Happy Friday!

This and That

This week has been insanely busy. My little one turns one on Saturday. Family has been in town for a few days with more coming in tomorrow. It’s been an intense year, but good in so many ways. I’m still trying to figure out how to be a full time mom, full time day job and a writer. Juggling the three doesn’t always work.
I’ve also been really sick for weeks. I suffer from Crohn’s and that has reared its ugly head. I’m getting better daily, but for many reasons, the blog has been the last thing on my mind. So if you don’t hear much from me, I’m trying to mend and thankfully I’m not worrying about vampires like my friend Julia! :o) if you’re curious to what I’m talking about check out her blog.

TGIF and Penny Watson's New Release

It's Friday! I'm excited because I don't have to work this weekend. On top of that the DH wants to make it a weekend celebration for my birthday (which is really Monday). Thing is he knows I tend to shy away from being in the spotlight. I don't like being center of attention or making a big deal out of my birthday. He is just the opposite. In fact he celebrates his birthday week and we even take one of our vacations that week. Even at 41 he's like a big kid, but that's what I love about him.

Today I want to get back to writing after having been sidetracked the last few days with, well....LIFE. lol
For those of you waiting I'm going to try to get my newsletter out today.

In other news, my friend Penny Watson has a new release today. Here's all the information you need to grab a copy!

Available at The Wild Rose Press

Christmas: Klaus Brothers Series, #2

Oskar Klaus' job is killing him. Not even his favorite hobbies (extreme snowboarding and browsing old bookstores) are enough to snap him out of his funk. It's not easy living in the shadow of four successful older brothers and a father named Santa. Little does he know that a kiss on New Year's Eve is about to turn his life upside-down.

Kiana Grant's Manhattan life is a world away from her childhood in Oahu. She traded sunsets and surfing for a respectable career in library science, but Oskar Klaus is a temptation that's hard to resist. Before she knows it, she's in the midst of an outrageous adventure in the North Pole, dealing with mischievous elves, wicked demons, and a devastating attraction to Santa's youngest son.

There's just one problem...a bitter elf hell-bent on revenge threatens the future of everyone in the North Pole, even Santa himself...

Rating: Spicy

Page Count: 302

Excerpt:

He never heard the end of the countdown. One minute he was leaning toward her, and the next he was lost in a tropical Eden. Sweet and lush, surrounded by warm breezes and the feel of sand beneath his bare feet. The scent of perfumed flowers filled the air, and he groaned as Kiana’s slender arms wound around his neck.

She let out a breathy sigh just before her lips touched his. So softly, so gently, he wasn’t sure if it was real. He brushed his mouth over hers and she opened for him, tasting of tea and honey and paradise.

Greedy for more, his hands slid under her baggy blouse, stroking the smooth skin of her back. He pressed her closer until he felt the pounding beat of her heart against his chest. Her fingers fluttered like a butterfly against the stubble on his cheek, finally resting there and tracing his jaw.

He deepened the kiss, pushing her back against the cushions of the sofa, devouring her mouth. Her leg hooked over his knee pushing the drab gray skirt up her thigh. A long expanse of soft skin rubbed against his trousers.

Without thinking, he moved a hand to her leg and dragged his palm along the bare skin. He could swear he heard the sound of the ocean, waves crashing and returning to sea. He moaned and Kiana gasped in delight. He was having difficulty breathing, so he pulled back, nipping her lip on the way.

The heat of a scorching sun bathed his body, and before his eyes finally snapped open, he heard the faint sound of a ukulele playing. Then, silence.

His eyes opened and he found himself sitting in the darkened corner of the living room, alone on the sofa. In his hands he held a pair of tortoiseshell glasses.

Kiana was gone.

School's Out For Summer

Alice Cooper’s song comes to mind every June. Back in high school this was the song all the local rock stations played at the end of June. Thursday was my daughter’s last day of school and I’m enjoying not having to fight with her to get out of bed. TEENS!
Only two days of work left for me before I take a 10 day vacation. The day job has been overly stressful lately and I can really use the time off. It’ll be nice because I’ll go back for about 3 weeks and then off for maternity leave. Woo hoo. It won’t be long. I’m not rushing it though because I love summer and do not want it to fly by.
I’m busy planning the DH’s b-day get together for next weekend. Tomorrow is my mom’s b-day, but we’ll celebrate that when she comes out to visit in two weeks.
So, a few weeks ago, then George Clooney’s gal pal made a comment that she would be married by the end of the year. When I read this I said to the DH, “Not to George! She just bought her ticket to a break-up.”
The DH shrugged, what does he care about things like that? Now look they broke up. If she’ll be married by the end of the year it will not be to George. :o) I just find it funny that women think they’ll tame him and tie him down to marriage. He clearly has no desire to be married.
I have to give George credit. Don’t get me wrong, I love my DH very much and I’m happy we’re married. But in all honesty, if I had to get into a relationship again I wouldn’t live with another man, nor would I marry one. I could happily date and still have my freedom to be who I want and do what I want. Apparently George likes his life the way it is and good for him.
Happy Saturday!

Busy Day

Another work day for me. I’ll have to work until 2am only to be up at 7am to work another full day tomorrow. UGH! I guess I need to be happy I have a job.
On top of working I’m throwing a birthday party for my daughter and granddaughter. My mom and son should arrive early afternoon for a weekend visit. I hope to squeeze some writing time in while decorating the house with Dora the Explorer and Spongebob (the 14 yr old wanted to feel like a kid too) LOL
Hope everyone enjoys their Saturday!

Happy Birthday Connor

It’s hard to imagine an entire year has passed since I gave birth to our son. In retrospect I can’t really recall most of that day. One minute I was eating a Big Mac the next I was in the hospital with all sorts of wires attached to me and people telling me I had to deliver or risk losing my son. In all reality they didn’t expect him to survive birth. But he did. He lived for 6 precious days.

I couldn’t have gotten through those days without my family and friends and that includes my online friends. One in particular was my lifeline. She spread the word of what happened and continually kept others posted for me. She sent me words of encouragement when I didn’t think I could go on. I’m not sure if I ever thanked her and when I met her at RomantiCon it wasn’t the time or place, but I want her to know I’ll never forget the kindness she showed me during one of the most difficult times in my life. So thanks Regina Carlysle. You’re truly one of a kind.

Also a big thank you to Mia Watts who wanted to call me at 2am just to be a shoulder to cry on. I couldn’t talk to her at that time because the DH had finally fallen asleep on the couch next to me and I feared waking him. I’ll always remember your kindness too.

Today will be a somber day in our household as we all grieve the loss of a child, brother, grandchild, but knowing I have the support of family and friends will get me through this day.

Happy Birthday, Connor. I wish you were here to celebrate with us.

Sleep is Overrated!

I couldn’t sleep. Well, that’s not true. Yesterday at exactly 5pm sharp, I shut down my two work laptops and the desktop. I had a headache. I informed the DH I was going to lie down please be sure to wake me at 6. I had dinner to cook and other things that needed my attention. I woke with a start at 7. Now mind you I was also a tad snippy and pissy when I went off to bed.
I stormed out of the bedroom and said, “I told you I needed to be up at 6.” I slammed the bathroom door behind me.
When I emerged I noticed he was eating. I asked if he had dinner. *don’t point out the obvious* He went and got himself a sub.
Okay, I went back into my room, closed the door and slept straight through until 1am. Yup, wide awake at 1. I did get some writing time in and I surfed. Now it’s time to shower and get ready for another long day at my desk. I wonder what time I stay awake until today.
It’s my mother in laws birthday so I’m taking her out for a leisurely lunch.
Happy Thursday!

Happy Birthday to Me

This was the right way to start my birthday, A JERR review!

Title: Adrift
Author: Amber Skyze
Publisher: Loose Id
Reviewer: Gabrielle Lee
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Heat level: H

Kari has hidden herself away from the world because of one awful night and the scars that came from it. She has had a crush on her coworker Ben since he has come to work at her office. Little does she know but he has his eyes set on her and intends to bring her out of her shell. He sees more than just her outside appearance, he sees her soul and wants to share the love he and Adam have with her.
I was pulled into Adrift right from the start. Kari is a strong woman. She has lost and survived. Now all she needs is someone like Ben and Adam to bring her out of hiding. Ben is a wonderful man who loves with all his heart and wears it on his sleeve. Adam is a sweet man as well. He loves Ben and will protect him no matter what. As strong as the bond is between the two men it only becomes stronger when Kari enters the picture. When the three finally come together as a threesome they do more than have sex. The two men make love to Kari showing her that they care about her not her scars. Making it a very emotional experience for all. Adrift is a wonderful read that takes you on a roller coaster ride of love and emotions. I enjoyed this sweet, sexy love story and will be looking for more stories from this author in the future.

Play With Me

So I was up at the crack of dawn writing. After dropping the youngest off at the bus stop I took off for some grocery shopping. Food was running low and since returning from RomantiCon I hadn’t felt like shopping. Plus we’re celebrating my son’s b-day tomorrow night because my mom will be in town, definitely have to have food for mom.
I almost forgot I have a new release today. Actually I did until my dear friend Regina Carlysle sent me wishes.
Before I forget stop by tomorrow, when Raine Delight will be talking about Shifters and her newest release.

Book Three in the Freedom Fantasies series is out today PLAY WITH ME. Here’s a little taste. :o)

Chapter One

Kim sat at her large mahogany desk, looking at the different monitors lining the walls. Guests were mingling. Fun was being had by her many visitors. A small smile formed on her lips.
Success. Sweet, sweet success.
Tonight was hit. Almost every room was filled, all except the one on the top floor. Kim hadn’t expected anyone to reserve the room. It was her room. The room she’d been preparing for the man who had her heart.
Her focus returned to the bar where guests were enjoying cocktail hour. The first floor was open for anyone who didn’t mind being seen at the Manor. Due to the nature of the Manor, anonymity was requested by some of her guests and Kim provided it to the fullest extent.
If someone wanted to spend the night in one of her rooms, but with privacy, Kim placed them on the third floor. There was a back entrance with an elevator that led to the floor.
She provided escorts at the back door and then again at the door opening to the third floor. Guests were discreetly led to and from their rooms. Most dressed in black from head to toe. Large hats or sunglasses adorned their heads to hide their identities.
In fact her good friend Paige and her husband Jed had recently spent some time on the third floor. Paige whisked them in under disguise. Because of Jed’s standing in the community he couldn’t risk being seen coming to Freedom Fantasies.
Yes, she understood their need for privacy. It wasn’t your run-of-the-mill mansion or bed-and-breakfast. No, the Manor was a place where people came to live out their ultimate sexual fantasy. Whether it was to be dominated, loved by two, three or even four men or women, it didn’t matter. Kim had a room for every desire.
She even had a special room on the top floor designed especially for her. Kim had fantasies of her own. She’d yet to use the room, but she hoped one day the source of her obsession would come around to her way of thinking and finally give in to his desires. David Shea. Though he didn’t know it. Kim could smack him over the head with a frying pan and he’d probably still be oblivious.
As if he knew she was thinking about him, David came into view on the monitor. Looking as sexy as hell dressed in black jeans and a charcoal button-down shirt, he mingled with the crowd.
He smiled at something Mrs. Fergus was saying. She and her husband were using the schoolgirl suite on the second floor. They didn’t care about being discreet. They’d frequented the Manor many times over the last year, since it opened. And they had recommended the place to friends.
David touched Mrs. Fergus’ hand, nodded a few times and then moved on to the next set of people. Eventually he moved out of sight.
David Shea. She’d loved him for the longest time. He was the reason she bought the place and remodeled it. She hoped he would find her too sexy to deny any longer. But he hadn’t. The one thing he had done was bankroll the adventure. He insisted on being fully involved in every aspect of running the place. Except she hadn’t let him be part of her room. She’d put her foot down on that one. Oh, he tried worming it out of her, but she could be just as stubborn when she wanted to. If he wanted to find out what her room was all about, he could, but that meant giving in to their sexual desires. Something David wasn’t ready to do yet.
Frustrated, she snapped the pencil she’d been holding in two.
“When will you come to your senses?” she growled, tossing the broken pencil across the room.
“Whoa!” David said, walking into her office. “What’s eating you?”
Not you! She wanted to spit.
“Nothing. Just having a hell of a time balancing last night’s deposits.”
He strode across the room and stood behind her. He bent for a closer look at the spreadsheet on her desk.
“Want me to look it over for you?”
His warm breath assaulted her neck. Tingling sensations crawled down her skin, filling her clit with lust and desire.
She groaned.
“I’ll be fine. I just need to walk away for a few minutes, that’s all.” She pushed her chair back, practically ramming him. She didn’t offer an apology. Shit, he shouldn’t be so fucking close, causing her body to ache with a need for release.
“You sure?”
She heard the concern in his voice before she looked at his eyes.
She’d insulted him.
“I’m sure. Look, I’m sorry. I just need a few minutes alone. Will you excuse me?”
He shrugged, but his gray eyes clouded over.
Without hesitation, she rushed from the room, haunted by the pained look in his eyes. She slipped into the next room. Her bedroom. The one she slept in all alone every night thinking and dreaming about David.
Leaning against the door, she fought to catch her breath. This hold he had over her was too much. Maybe she should just use one of the other rooms and have some fun with someone who wasn’t David. Someone who was his direct opposite. Maybe that would cure her of her feelings for him.
She crossed the room and stared out at the expanse of the ocean. Waves crashed against the rocks, shattering. The way her heart did every time David rejected her. He didn’t know how much she loved him or how much it pained her to be so close to him.
Buying him out of the business might be a good idea. That way she wouldn’t have to deal with him on a daily basis. She wouldn’t have to deal with him at all. Maybe that was her answer. Maybe that was the cure to erasing David from her system.
Somehow she doubted it would work, but it was a good thought. One she’d give some serious consideration to, because a woman could only go so long without sex. And her battery-operated friend was no help. It didn’t give her the pleasure a real cock would. No, Kim had to get laid soon or she was going to explode.

YAY! It's Friday.

One set of edits are off my desk and today I’ll finish the others. I’m looking forward to the weekend.
I bought the DH awesome seats to Bon Jovi for his b-day. So tomorrow we’ll head to Gillette stadium for the concert. The last time I went to Gillette for a concert was 2003 with my best friend. We rocked out to Metallica, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park for the Summer Sanitarium tour. Back then we were New Yorkers and not welcomed by Boston. Though no one would’ve known had my best friend not took it upon herself to tell anyone who’d listen Boston Red Sox suck. She’s a die-hard Yankees fan. I thought we were gonna get in a fight with a group of drunk guys.
Truth be told I’m not a huge fan of Bon Jovi’s new stuff. I loved him back in the 80s and early 90s, but I could take him or leave now. BUT because the DH enjoys his music I’ll go. I hope he plays more older stuff than newer. LOL Kid Rock is the opening act. Should draw an interesting crowd.
Sunday we’ll spend the day out on a boat in Boston with the B/SIL and then off to check out their new house and celebrate the BIL’s b-day. I doubt any writing will get done. I can’t party like I did back 20 years ago. I’m sure Monday I’ll be a vegetable. LOL
Hope everyone has a terrific weekend.

Happy Birthday to my husband, who turns 40 today!

Welcome to my world honey! :)

The End

I typed those two words on two manuscripts this week. Wednesday I sent one editor my cougar challenge story and today I finished Stranded. I began editing Stranded yesterday, knowing the end was near. My hopes are to have it to the new editor by Monday or Tuesday.
I’ve been suffering from migraines all week long and they’ve taken their toll on me. It’s probably the stress from trying to get two books done and finish all the preparations for the surprise party. Tomorrow is the big day…all my hard work will be over. It can’t come soon enough. I still have running to do today and in the morning. I hope the DH realizes how much I love him. LOL
Tomorrow is also my mom’s birthday. Even though we celebrated it a few weeks ago, I’ll do something small for her when she arrives.
Sunday I will crash – hard! The DH is talking about leaving Sunday night for Block Island. We’ll see.
As I’ve been saying I’ll be on vacation next week – woo hoo. Probably won’t be blogging too much. The second half of the week I’ll have limited email access too. I’ll likely leave you all with snippets of my backlist.
Until then…have a great weekend!

Friday, June 18, 2010

YAY! It's Friday.

One week until vacation and eight days until the second surprise party is over. Let me tell you, a few times I wanted to just tell the DH about the party. The two families are stressing me out. Some don’t respond, some are starting fights with others and the biggest issue was a gift. Now mind you I’m excited my hubby’s getting a gift he wants for his birthday, but the timing is an issue.
We planned on getting away to Block Island for three or four days during our vacation. We weren’t sure we would go to Block Island, but it was one of a few choices. We were going to leave on the 29th, his actual birthday and come back Friday. Well his parents (who by the way knew we were going away), bought Red Sox tickets. For the 30th! Ummm, hello. Maybe you could have reached out to me and asked what dates would be good. The best part was having to ask him to change our plans and not tell him why.
Yeah, that didn’t work. I go to him and said, “Honey, we have to change our plans slightly. Don’t make any plans for the 30th and I can’t tell you why.”
He turns and says, “Oh so who bought the Red Sox tickets?”
I left the room. I suck at lying. LOL
In other news I was offered a contract for book three in the Freedom Fantasies series. Play With Me.
Doing the Happy Dance over here.
I’m about 9k away from finishing Stranded. I want this puppy done by the 25th. I want to go on vacation and not think about writing.
In July I’ll start Tommy’s story. He was in Pretend With Me and deserves to have a HEA. I’m planning this to be a quickie, but we’ll see.
Come on vacation!!!!!!!
Off to babysit the darling granddaughter. Happy Friday Everyone!

Is it Thursday already?

Life is just hectic. Still planning the two parties. Mom’s is pretty much done. Just have to get a cake. The DH’s not so much. I have so much shopping to do. It’s not easy when he works out of the house three days a week. I think the worst part is not talking about it. We talk about EVERYTHING. I’m wondering how he kept my 40th party a surprise. Especially with my kids. They have BIG mouths. But they all kept it a secret.
So I got an email from one of my publishers. They’re considering a print book for me. I wanted to jump up and down but it’s not definite. They wanted possible title names. Because of length restrictions they have to put a couple of my books together. Fine by me. So this morning I compiled a list of 10 titles and sent them off. I’m not good at thinking up titles on the fly. Normally my titles come to me first and then I write the story. So this was painful to say the least.
I’ll keep you posted if this pans out. It would be nice to be able to hold one of my babies in my hand!
In other news: still didn’t get the newsletter out. I’m gonna do my best to get it out today.
22 days til vacation. Can you tell the day job is stressing me out too!

So Much To Do!

I’ve been busy. I finished editing book three of the Freedom Fantasies series and sent it off to my editor. I had to get my chapter’s newsletter out and work, well, it drove me nuts.
This weekend the DH and I cleaned the sunroom from top to bottom, planted flowers got all the deck furniture out and cleaned off. What he doesn’t realize is he’s helping me prepare for his big birthday surprise party! LOL I’m evil.
Speaking of which, I’m I the process of planning TWO surprise parties. My mom has a milestone birthday THREE days before the DH’s. It’s getting confusing and hard to keep a secret. I’m an only child so there aren’t any brother’s or sister’s to help with the planning.
I meet with the cake lady this week. I’m getting him one of the real fancy specialty cakes. Something to do with the Red Sox. No worries he doesn’t read my blog.
I also started self-edits on a full length romantic comedy today. I finished Chapter one. I had to switch from 1st to 3rd person. I didn’t like the 1st person.
Today I’m getting back to my cougar story. I feel like I’m finally free to explore this more. Fellow cougar Dalton Diaz gave me a few suggestions after reading my synopsis and I want to go back and incorporate her idea.
In other news – I received a contract for Freedom Fantasies, Book Two – Spend The Night With Me. This is Brooke and Liam’s story. Let’s just say they have fun with a stripper pole and a swing!
Come back tomorrow when I have an interview with my good, good friend Katalina Leon!

New Review

Today is my youngest daughter’s 13th birthday. She felt I should let her skip school. I wasn’t feeling it! LOL Everyone went to dinner on Monday to celebrate. It was the only night everyone was available. So tonight I’ll make her favorite meal – taco’s. Happy Birthday L!

I dove back into my Cougar story this morning. It was a nice change of pace from the series. Barring any big issues I plan to have this one to my editor before June 1st. I’m really shooting for May 15th, but I’m giving myself a little leeway.

There’s a story building in my head that is begging to be written. I just hope it leaves me alone long enough to finish the cougar book.

Research Required received a decent review. You can check it out here:

Off to do more editing. Happy Hump Day!

Another Friday...

Another unproductive week. I have a long list of things that need to get done. Some include work stuff that I’m under deadline for – April 30th is fast approaching. Some of it is writing related – which I’m not doing any of. I have my local chapter stuff that needs to get done and of course there’s always spring cleaning that needs tending to.
Screw it. It’ll all be there when I finally decide to do it. The weather has been nice here. Every night after dinner the DH and I go for a walk. Most nights we take the granddaughter with us. Now she’s gotten to the point where she’ll go behind the bar after dinner and pull on her stroller. Smart little turd, she knows where it’s stored. It’s hard to believe she’ll be a year old in less than two weeks. All my family is coming in to town next weekend for her party and then my other daughters the following day. I’m so glad T’s birthday didn’t fall on my daughter’s. At almost 13 she’s having a difficult time sharing her mother with her niece.
Hopefully I’ll be able to shake whatever this is that has me doing nothing. I really need to be writing. Book 1 in the Freedom Fantasies series releases next Friday. I haven’t finished book 2. Only about 8-10k away. Book 3 is complete and ready to submit, but my editor wants them at the same time. And of course there’s always the Cougar story I need to finish. I’m only about 18k away from the end! LOL
Oh well…if someone finds my muse please return it quickly!
Have a fun weekend.

Must Sleep

I worked my normal nine hour day yesterday and then had to work again from 8pm-4:30am. I was able to catch a few catnaps during that time, but not much. One reason was a terrible migraine I'm still suffering with. It just won't go away. I'm currently on the couch with both my work and personal laptop trying to get some writing done. I'm 3400 words behind my nano total and would like to catch up.
We leave for NY on Wednesday to visit my family for the holidays. I'll get a lot of writing done in the hotel, I always do. That's when my stories for the chicken soup for the soul come to me too. Every year I've written one or two and every year I sell them. Hey the extra $200 a story helps. Can't beat the money for a 1k story and 30mins of my time.
Tonight the family will come together to celebrate my son's girlfriends 25th birthday. Her family seems to have neglected to remember this milestone for their daughter so it's up to us to make her feel special. While it'll only be pizza and cake, it goes a long way with her.
Tomorrow I look forward to sleeping late. No work, no appointments, nothing!

Hope everyone has a terrific weekend!
